Please Eat the Fruit!

Today I presented at a workshop sharing the foundation for a holistically healthy life. I loved it! It was my first workshop at my local fitness center and although the attendance was small (ok, 2 people but it was still so fantastic!) we had really good conversation and great questions.

One of my greatest joys is busting myths (yes, soy is good for breast cancer prevention! No, sugar doesn’t cause cancer!) and answering questions.

I love it when I can see a connection go off or an “ah ha!” moment for people. Even one small step towards better health and wellness is great progress - it means someone is pointing in the right direction.

Today one of the participants mentioned she didn’t eat fruit anymore because of the sugar content. Gulp. Myth busting time! I shared that yes fruit does have sugar but it’s very minimal and it’s not processed sugar.

In addition, fruit:

  • Has fiber which slows our digestion and doesn’t give us that nasty sugar spike that processed sugar does

  • Has phytonutrients (antioxidants) that help to prevent damage to the cells throughout the body

  • Has a variety of vitamins and minerals

  • Is calorie and low fat

Besides, it allows us to eat the rainbow which is extremely healthy and good for us.

With this new knowledge and a big AHA moment this participant happily started to tell us her fruit shopping list!

So, if this has made you crave fruit (like it has for me) then grab it and munch happily! I’m heading to the fridge for that cold cantaloupe on this hot, Florida afternoon!
